What Can You Get With Just Two Minutes of Appreciation?
I’ll bet you know someone who wakes up every morning with a smile on their face because they get to work at what they love. It’s like a perfect fit. Whatever their work is, this person is doing what they were meant to do… this person is so lucky, because they get to work at what they love.
Then there are the rest of us.
We may LIKE what we work at… or maybe not so much.
We more than likely find ourselves bitching or wining or moping or complaining from time to time, about a boss, or the nature of a specific project, or the long hours we’re expected to put in on something. And because we maybe aren’t working at what we love, we find all kinds of reasons to dump on the job.
So, what if we challenged ourselves to find JUST ONE THING about our work that we appreciate? It could be the flexible hours or the free coffee or a guaranteed parking spot. Could be the discounted gym membership or one great colleague you enjoy getting to know or the chance to learn something new each week.
OK… now that you’ve identified one thing that you appreciate about your work, take 2 minutes (might seem like an incidental amount of time) and focus on that feeling of appreciation. Really experience that delicious feeling of well being that appreciation brings to us.
When the two minutes is up, ask yourself “How much have I moved the dial in terms of appreciating my work?
Two minutes is a not a lot of time, but I invite you to every once in a while take those two minutes out of your hectic day. What have you got to lose? Two minutes? I promise you, it will be two minutes well spent, not lost!
