An Unexpected Conversation
A few weeks ago I popped into one of my favorite restaurants for a quick bite, and ran into two women I knew but hadn’t seen in several years. As we caught up on life and work, they asked me what kind of work I was doing these days. I told them I was an executive and career Coach with my own private practice.
This is the point where they both looked at each other and then back and me and then blurted out at the same time “That’s so great… We’ve both just started working with a Coach and loving it.”
Truly, it wasn’t that long ago (maybe 10 years or less) when if you told your acquaintances you were a Coach they’d have to ask what that was, or they’d assume you were an athletic Coach. But today, it’s really common to come across folks who have a Coach.
I marvel at the speed with which our culture has recognized the value of coaching and how beneficial hiring a Coach can be.
Here are a few of the top benefits folks find they receive from their coaching experience:
- A trusting environment to talk about what’s really important for an hour every couple of weeks.
- A heightened ability to self-reflect and dig deep on future imagining
- A clearer sense of direction when it comes to their career (or their leadership style, or their lifestyle, or…)
- A sense of accountability towards action
I love running into folks I know whenever I’m out and about.
I especially enjoy the experience when we get to talk about what a marvelous experience they are having with their Coach and how much is changing in their lives for the better, as a result!
