EXPERIENCING OUTRAGEOUS JOY

Here’s a quote I found on a calendar I keep on my desk.  It’s one of those evergreen calendars that has one quote per day, and I’ve referred to it for years now.  This quote was on the January 14 date:

“ Your motion forward is inevitable; it must be.  You cannot help but move forward.  But you are not here on a quest to move forward- you are here to experience outrageous joy.  That is why you are here.”

And I think this one especially stood out for me, for a couple of reasons.

I currently have at least three coaching clients who are not experiencing outrageous joy in their working lives and are feeling pretty bummed by it all.  I think I’ll share this quote with them.

I often witness my new clients coming to coaching because they are stuck (in one or more aspects of their lives) and they truly believe that if they can just move forward, all will be well.

And with coaching, often comes a realization that although moving forward sure feels better than being stuck, that in fact moving forward is not the end goal, it’s simply a “means whereby”.  And that the end goal, or desired state, is in fact, their very own version of “outrageous joy”.

We may not be comfortable using that phrase of “outrageous joy”, so maybe you might call it “fulfillment” or “contentment” or “happiness” or…. (insert your desired end state-word or phrase !)

So I offer you this above quote today, simply as a reminder that no matter the length or speed or direction of the paths we are on, that by keeping the knowledge that we are here to experience this desired state of outrageous joy is really what matters.  How we get there may well be secondary to knowing that we can indeed achieve it.
