Family Synchronicity and Destiny

There are some people who know from an early age, what they want to be when they grow up. My brother was one of those people. From the time he was about eight years old, he discovered music . Our parents bought him a recorder and then he moved on to the flute. He’s made a full time career for many years as a professional concert flutist.

And then, six years ago, in January, 2005, he was drawn to study something else completely. He’s now a psychotherapist and a flutist. Two professions- both of which he loves. How lucky is that?

I, on the other hand, was clueless about what I wanted to be when I grew up. I had no driving ambition to study any one particular subject. There was no one area that I particularly excelled in. I wasn’t drawn to be a doctor or an actress or a writer and certainly not a musician. But I learned over the years that there are as many versions of ‘being good at something’ as there are people. And I got to be pretty good at a bunch of things in my working life, mostly in the fields of marketing and communications.

And then, six years ago, in January, 2005, I was drawn to study something else completely. I’m now a professional life and career coach. And so I now have two areas of work, both of which I love. How lucky is that?

My brother and I live many miles apart. He’s in the southwestern US, and I’m in Nova Scotia. Neither of us knew what the other was up to six years ago, until we had each signed up for those courses and had begun the process of creating a second career of choice for ourselves. But the moment we talked on the phone and discovered what the other was up to, we knew we were both on the right path….a path that was probably destined all along. It just took us a while to figure it out!
