It Depends On The Weather!
Everything is relative, don’t you think? A few weeks ago, after a rather miserable and long month of rain and clouds, the sun came out. Well, it sort of came out, for part of the day. And wouldn’t you know, our entire neighborhood was out mowing lawns and gardening, smiling and waving to each other… all on that one sunny Sunday… myself included. It was truly a glorious day in so many ways.
What I find interesting is that in the context of a long string of dark and cloudy days, we tend to celebrate and be happy and thankful for a day that’s anything better than we’ve had up till then.
And yet, if we’d had a month full of sun shine days, I’m guessing that the Sunday I’ve just mentioned would have been pretty ‘average’ in most of our books. Maybe not so many waves and smiles offered.
We tend to view, assess and respond to our situations based on the world around us. That goes for weather, or anything else for that matter. A day with a few hours of spotty sunshine can be a fabulous day or ‘nothing special’ day, depending on the context and how we see it.
A phone call from a friend can brighten your day or be a nuisance, again, based on what’s going on in your life at that moment. Finding out that your position at work may be cut can be the beginning of something exciting or a most depressing and anxiety causing situation. It depends on how you look at it and what else is going on in your world.
We are thinking, feeling human beings and we get to chose, each and every moment of every day, how we respond to situations. I’m just saying…. It’s worth taking a look at the choices we make around how we see our world… even with the ‘small’ stuff.
