Storm Day

Funny thing about having a Storm Day. We can turn it into whatever we want it to be.
It can be such a gift. Or create a crisis. We can see it as a good thing or a not so good thing.

It’s really all about perspective, isn’t it?

I recall a ‘storm day’ last fall… a hurricane was barreling towards the province and we had to batten down the hatches, bring in the lawn furniture, ensure the sump pump in the basement was in working order, locate the batteries and candles and then just wait with anticipation.

Some folks I talked to were pissed off. They had a particular perspective and in the short term it seemed to work for them. They had something to complain about… “it’s too early in the season for a hurricane”… “this is so unfair”… “what did we do to deserve this?”… “I can’t afford to miss a day of work this week”.

But others had another perspective. “This is like a vacation day in the middle of the week”… “I love being safe in my home with the wind howling and the rain coming down”… “Think of all the things I can accomplish on this gift-day”… “I’m going to take the day and do a juice cleanse- a perfect day to read a book and drink herbal tea and juice to clean out my system”.

It really is a matter of perspective. Isn’t it?
We get to make the choice. Will I whine or will I embrace?

Next time you are faced with an unplanned situation, be it weather induced or otherwise, take a moment to consider which perspective you will choose. You might just surprise yourself!
